According to Billy Kahn, id Software’s lead engine programmer, Doom Eternal is capable of running at 1000fps “if you have the hardware right.”

Doom Eternal has been developed on id Tech 7, compared to 2016’s Doom which was developed on id’s previous engine, id Tech 6. “On id Tech 6, we maxed it out to 250 frames per second,” Kahn explains; “This game, if you have the hardware right, it could hit 1000 frames per second … I’ve had some hardware here locally that we built just for testing, where we had scenes running in the 400 frames per second.”

Doom Eternal is set to be released on March 20th 2020.
